Immigration Services

Local 79 offers eligible members up to eight hours of free legal services for a range of immigration-related issues through the law offices of Gorlick, Kravitz & Listhaus (see Legal Services above).

Make the Road New York offers members a full range of immigration services aimed at protecting individuals from deportation, keeping families together, and increasing civic and economic opportunities for low-income immigrants. Their attorneys represent immigrants in removal proceedings, assist with applications and petitions to obtain permanent resident status, help thousands of young people obtain deferred action status, and prepare citizenship applications for those eligible. A $120 lifetime membership grants you access to Make the Road New York’s high quality services and education programs. Make the Road New York has put together a useful guide to immigration reform legislation. They have also put together information (in Spanish) related to President Obama’s executive order on immigration: Cómo Prepararse para el Alivio Administrativo  and Accion Administrativa Inmigracion

The National Immigration Law Center provides information to immigrants related to a number of different issues. Click on “Get Informed” and you will find a variety of community education materials, publications, and links to organizations that provide free and low-cost immigration counseling and services.
