Immigration Forum

As many of you know, immigration reform is one of the top priorities of LiUNA. In an effort to provide the membership with information related to immigration and immigration reform, Local 79 is presenting an Immigration Forum at St. Vartan Church on the afternoon of Sunday, April 6th from 2:00-5:00 pm. The forum, which will be presented in Spanish (with simultaneous Spanish-to-English interpretation over headsets) will address  the following topics: LiUNA’s position on immigration issues; the current state of immigration reform legislation in Congress;  issues related to Deferred  Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA); rights of undocumented workers;  and immigration services available [...]

LOCAL 79 QUEENS MEMBERSHIP CALL TO ACTION! Developer Alma Realty is seeking zoning changes to allow it to build three waterfront towers up to 32-stories tall, plus two shorter towers inland. We must make sure that Queens politicians do not grant this developer zoning changes that will return millions of dollars in profit without assurance that the workers from Queens will share in this economic development. Construction Workers Memorial Mass

Local 79 Volunteers Help Brighten Up Schools

On Saturday, November 23rd, members from Local 79 and 100 Black Construction Workers volunteered to work with students from Publicolor to paint their school. Publicolor , a non-profit founded in 1996, aims to improve education in youth by promoting an imaginative use of color in school buildings. Its operations include recruiting disadvantaged students to paint the walls of their schools and giving financial rewards to some of them for their work.
