Thanks to the organizing of Laborers Fight Back activists, the Body Shop Bill was passed by the NYC Council by a vote of 40 to 2. This groundbreaking legislation will regulate unscrupulous contractors that take advantage of formerly incarcerated construction workers. Local 79 Business Manager Mike Prohaska said, “With proper enforcement, this law will empower formerly incarcerated New Yorkers, help remove barriers to workplace organizing on non-union construction sites, and enhance public safety for all.” Thank you to all our members for all your efforts getting this bill across the finish line.
