LiUNA’s General President Terence O’Sullivan attended Local 79’s General Membership Meeting on January 21 and presented LiUNA’S highest award to Steve Plate, the Director of World Trade Center Construction and the Deputy Chief of Capital Planning for the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey. Also present at the meeting was LiUNA Vice President and Eastern Regional Manager Raymond M. Pocino. Both O’Sullivan and Pocino thanked Mr. Plate for the leadership he has provided  and continues to provide in overseeing the rebuilding of the World Trade Center site. Mr. Plate was very gracious in his remarks and thanked the membership for all the work that they have done and continue to do at the site. Mr. Plate, who worked as a laborer with Local 731 in the 1970s, is well known to workers from all the building trades because he often walks the site to speak with workers and supervisors. Laborers from Local 79 and other laborers locals have logged millions of hours at the World Trade Center construction site since 9/11 and are incredibly grateful for the hard work and guidance provided by Mr. Plate.
