Close to 300 members of Local 79 joined hundreds of brothers and sisters from other trades and from our community partners on the evening of February 4 to demand that the proposed rezoning of East New York include real affordable housing and union jobs. “The rally last night demonstrates that the fight for good jobs and affordable housing that is truly affordable is a fight that is going to be won at the grassroots level,” said Local 79 Director of Organizing Chaz Rynkiewicz.. “Rezoning automatically makes property more valuable for developers, and in every case where rezoning is proposed, we are going to demand that developers employ union members and ensure that the members of the community that is being affected will have access to truly affordable housing.”
