Ecuadorean Day Parade Draws Huge Crowd

  Ecuadorean pride overflowed in the streets of Queens on Sunday, August 3rd as thousands of people marched in the annual Ecuadorean Day Parade. Local 79 was well represented as over 300 members and their families took part in the march and the festivities that followed. "This is a day that our members look forward to every year," said Local 79 Business Agent Luis Montalvo. "The Ecuadorean community is such a vital part of the fabric of New York City, and this spirited parade is a great way to celebrate its contributions."

As previously announced, Local 79 recently received membership in Actors Federal Credit Union (ActorsFCU). On Wednesday, November 5th at 5:00 pm, representatives of the Actors Federal Credit Union will be at Local 79's offices to assist Local 79 members in applying to open up an account at the credit union. Local 79 members are encouraged to join this year's African American Day Parade on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at 1:00 pm. The parade, which  begins at 111th Street and Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard and proceeds to 136th Street, is the largest such parade in the United States. Local 79 is always well-represented at this parade. This year, Business Manager Mike Prohaska is honored to join dignitaries such as Congressman Charles Rangel and Reverend Al Sharpton as one of the parade's Grand Marshals. Important note: Local 79 members will assemble before 1:00 pm at 112th Street and Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard.

Local 79 Volunteers Clean Up Parks

Dozens of Local 79 members and their families volunteered their time on Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22 to clean up Wingate Park in Brooklyn and Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens. Projects included debris removal, trail maintenance and painting. New York City Parks employees were instrumental in identifying projects and providing the tools and equipment to get the job done. "To see such a large turn out of volunteers on the weekend is yet one of many examples of our members' dedication to their communities," said Local 79 Business Agent Luis Montalvo. "We thank them for their time and effort. "

Local 79 Health Fair is Huge Success

  Over 1,100 Local 79 members and their families came to Local 79's Health Fair at Coleman Country Day Camp on June 7 and enjoyed beautiful sunshine, delicious food, non-stop music and activities, and a wide array of health screenings. The health screenings included blood pressure and heart rate readings, pulmonary tests, cholesterol and glucose screenings, and lots of information from various health care providers. Wristband sales to members for the Health Fair and the 50/50 raffle at the Fair will result in a contribution of $6,000 to St. Mary's Hospital for Children. Flushing Meadows Corona Park Cleanup

Join members of Local 79 on Sunday, June 22 to clean up Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Breakfast begins at 9:00 and the cleanup project begins at 10:00.   Take the subway to the #7 Willets Point/Shea Stadium station.
