9/11 Memorial Museum Offers Free Admission to Rescue and Recovery Workers

Workers involved in the New York City, Arlington, VA, and Somerset county, PA rescue, recovery, investigation, cleanup, and relief efforts after 9/11 are eligible for free admission to the 9/11 Memorial Museum. To be eligible, workers must register with the Rescue and Recovery Workers Registry, a registry that documents workers who were involved in the post-9/11 effort and also provides a space for them to interact as a community. To register, click here. Upon registering, you will receive an email confirming receipt of the information. There is approximately a 24-hour delay before a new registered user can take advantage of the privilege of free admission.

Local 79 Hosts Spring Retiree Luncheon

On April 8, hundreds of Local 79 retirees gathered at Villa Barone in the Bronx for Local 79’s festive annual Spring Retiree Luncheon.  The four-hour event featured food, drink, dancing, and prizes—ranging from food baskets to high-end electronic goods—that were raffled off to the lucky winners. The highlight of the event was when Business Manager Mike Prohaska presented seven retirees with plaques that recognized their 50 years of membership in Local 79. May Day Rally Draws Huge Crowd

Hundreds of Local 79 members joined well over a thousand workers from various unions to celebrate May Day 2014 with a rally near New York City Hall. Under beautiful sunny skies, labor leaders and politicians spoke about the ongoing struggles faced by working people in New York City. Many spoke of the continuing struggles of working people in an economy that has increasingly seen the largest share of income go to the 1%. Affordable Housing March on August 20

Local 79 members are strongly encouraged to join a march for affordable housing and good jobs, sponsored by Real Affordability for All, a coalition of community groups and labor unions. Let's make it loud and clear that good jobs are an indispensable part of the new administration's affordable housing initiative.
