May Day 2018

On May Day, Local 79 members and thousands of other workers, immigrants, and allies jointed together in Washington Square Park  for a celebration and rally featuring dynamic speakers, musical performances, and community members. Member William Uyaguari spoke at the event and rallied the crowd to fight for the rights of all immigrant workers.

10,000 union brothers and sisters stretched over two blocks of Times Square to declare New York City is a Union Town! The #CountMeIn Movement stood united and sent a message to developers that the NYC Building Trades members will not be divided in their fight for fairness. Business Manager Mike Prohaska gave a fiery speech and emphasized, "There’s a union shop & there’s a non union shop, anyone who tells you they believe in open shop doesn’t believe in a union!"
