Following Louis Montalvo's retirement and Bernard Callegari transitioning to a new role at the Eastern Region, some changes to the Local 79 Executive Board were announced at our last general membership meeting: Steve Andujar is filling Louis Montalvo's place as an Executive Board Member, Jason Delgado is filling Bernard Callegari's place as Sargeant-at-Arms, and Mike Vatter is filling the Auditor position vacated by Steve Andujar. Local 79 members celebrated St. Patrick's Day at parades in Throggs Neck and Far Rockaway. "Everywhere we go, people want to know, who we are, so we tell them: We are the union, the mighty mighty union!"

Congratulations to Luis Montalvo on his retirement! Luis has been a LIUNA member for over 40 years. He finished his career serving our union as a Business Agent and Executive Board member. Previously, Luis worked as an organizer for LEROF and with Business Manager Mike Prohaska on the historic campaign to organize the demolition industry in the 1990s. Congratulations to Mike Prohaska and Mike Hellstrom on their new positions of leadership! Mike Prohaska will be assuming the position of Business Manager of the Mason Tenders District Council, in addition to his current role as Local 79 Business Manager. Local 79 is excited to announce our new Retiree Council. Together they represent centuries of experience and commitment to the labor movement. Our union is strong because our predecessors' legacy and we promise to continue to fight for justice for nyc construction workers.
