Navigation Program Apprentices Gather for Dinner

On Monday evening, April 6, 20 Local 79 apprentices attended a dinner to speak with Alize Beal, a Manhattan representative from the Mayor's office, about their path to becoming Local 79 apprentices, discuss the various ways in which they are active in the Local and their communities, and to listen to Mike McGuire, Director of the Mason Tenders' District Council Political Action Committee, talk about the importance of becoming engaged in various forms of political action. The apprentices were introduced to Local 79 through its Pre-Apprenticeship Navigation Programs. Local 79 Builds Benches in the Bronx

On Saturday, November 1, staff from Local 79 and Greater New York Laborers &-Employers  Cooperation and Education Trust (GNY LECET) and participants from Local 79's pre-apprenticeship Navigation Program volunteered their time to build benches at Padre Plaza Success Garden in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx. The benches will be donated to local community organizations. Community Voices Heard, New York Communities for Change, St. Nicks Alliance, and Make the Road New York worked with Local 79 to identify people who would succeed in the Navigation Program, and people from each of these organizations were present at the volunteer project.
