On Saturday morning, April 4, Local 79 members joined other members of the building trades, fast food, home healthcare, and airport workers, and community activists to demand that low wage workers be given a living wage of $15 an hour and unions to bargain for them and protect their rights. The rally began in front of the home of Michael Stern, a non-union developer who plans to build an 80-story tower at 111 W. 57th Street without using union labor. The marchers then made their way down to a nearby McDonald’s franchise. The protest was in advance of a mass national protest and strike to be held on April 15.
