On Saturday, November 23rd, members from Local 79 and 100 Black Construction Workers volunteered to work with students from Publicolor to paint their school. Publicolor , a non-profit founded in 1996, aims to improve education in youth by promoting an imaginative use of color in school buildings. Its operations include recruiting disadvantaged students to paint the walls of their schools and giving financial rewards to some of them for their work. Local 79 has been partnering with Publicolor for the past year. In addition to painting, volunteers helps students understand who Laborers are and what they do and the importance of unions. If members are interested in getting involved with Publicolor, please contact Melissa Shetler (LECET) at 212-452-9383.
