Local 79 Apprenticeship Recruitment: August 19th, 2016
The next date for open recruitment for Local 79's apprenticeship program is Friday, August 19th, 2016 at 9:00 am. Information about apprenticeship, the requirements, and how the recruitment process is carried out is available through the the Local 79 and the Mason Tenders' Training Fund websites.
Ecuadorian Day Parade: Sunday, August 7
Join fellow members of Local 79 at the Annual Ecuadorian Day Parade. Among other things, this year’s parade will highlight the strength and resilience of New York’s Ecuadorian population in light of the devastating earthquake that hit Ecuador in April of this year. $4,000 Accidental Death and Dismemberment Benefit
Recently, Local 79 members received a mailing from the National Life Insurance Company. This company provides all Local 79 members and retirees with a $4,000 Accidental Death and Dismemberment benefit at no charge to them or to Local 79. Local 79: Rate Increases Effective July 1, 2016
Local 79 members will receive increases on July 1, 2016. The increases vary and depend on the contract you are working under. If you have a question about which contract you are working under, please speak to the Shop Steward. If the Shop Steward does not know, he or she should speak to the area Business Agent. Local 79 and FDNY HEART 9/11 Mission: 40 Homes in Five Days
This past week, the HEART 9/11 Ecuador Team (volunteers from Local 79 and the FDNY) partnered with the global architectural firm Perkins Eastman and Hogar de Cristo to build emergency houses in Salinas de San Vicente, the earthquake's epicenter. Forty homes were built in five days with all manual tools: hammers, nails, and post hole diggers. Local 79 Members Volunteer to Go to Ecuador for Earthquake Relief Efforts
On June 24, 10 members of Local 79 will join 10 members of HEART 9/11 on a relief mission to Ecuador, where they will donate a week of their time and labor to help build 100 pre-fab homes for families who lost their houses in the devastating earthquake on April 16 of this year. Nearly 1000 Local 79 members and their families enjoyed a sunny day full of fun, food, family, and friendship at Local 79's 20th Anniversary Party and Health Fair at Coleman Country Day Camp. New Date for Local 79 20th Anniversary Celebration and Health Fair: Saturday, June 4th
Join members of Local 79 and their families for a fun-filled all-day outing. Local 79 Members: Show Your Support for the Strike Against Verizon!
Every Thursday afternoon from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm, until the strike against Verizon is won, Local 79 members are asked to join striking workers in front of the Verizon store at 57 W. 57th Street. We are urging members to come out in force to show their solidarity with the 40,000 CWA brothers and sisters who have been out on strike since April 13th.
